Michiel de Jager

Partner and lawyer since 1995

Michiel specialises in corporate employment law. He advises and litigates on employment law related to corporate law, such as reorganisations (collective redundancies), employee participation processes (both for entrepreneurs and for (central) works councils), collective bargaining issues, dismissal of directors under the articles of association (from the perspective of both shareholders and directors) and transfer of undertaking.

He mainly acts for employers, mostly medium-sized and large companies. In addition to employers and shareholders, Michiel also acts for directors (statutory directors) and other key employees in various employment and/or company law conflicts. Michiel has regularly dealt with integrity issues and investigations into transgressive behaviour (financial or otherwise), both on behalf of employers and employees; and he has participated in various committees charged with investigating (possible) dysfunctioning of medical specialists, whether or not employed. Of course, Michiel also deals with the regular employment law themes within companies, such as summary dismissal, illness, (serious) culpable conduct and unilateral adjustment of employment conditions.

Michiel’s working method is solution- and result-oriented, creative and direct, with attention to the person behind the dispute. He regularly acts as a sparring partner / boardroom advisor and he strives for a sustainable relationship of trust with his clients.

Michiel has also worked as a guest lecturer in the field of employee participation at the University of Utrecht and at Nyenrode Business University.

Michiel is a member of the Dutch Employment Lawyers Association, a member of the Rotterdam Employment Lawyers Association and the European Employment Lawyers Association.

Finally, Michiel can regularly be listened to online in the Employment Law podcast Van 9 tot 5 (www.9to5podcast.nl and on Spotify).
